Coated-paper maker NewPage Group files for proposed IPO

Miamisburg, OH-based coated-paper maker NewPage Group, Inc. (www.newpagecorp.com), files May 5 with the US Securities and Exchange Commission for a proposed initial public offering of its common stock.

NewPage Group is the parent company of NewPage Corp., a major coated-paper manufacturer with more than $4.7 billion in sales for 2007. The company's product portfolio includes coated freesheet, coated groundwood, supercalendered, newsprint and specialty papers used for packaging, commercial printing, newspapers and direct mail.

NewPage owns paper mills in Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Nova Scotia, Canada, with a total annual production capacity of approximately 5.5 million tons of paper, including approximately 4.3 million tons of coated paper, approximately 920,000 tons of uncoated paper and approximately 300,000 tons of specialty paper.
