DOJ clears IP’s buy of Weyerhaeuser containerboard biz

The US Dept. of Justice concludes its Hart-Scott-Rodino review of International Paper's (www.internationalpaper.com/Packaging/Packaging.html) acquisition of Weyerhaeuser's (www.weyerhaeuser.com/Products/Packaging) containerboard packaging and recycling business. The deal, initiated on March 17, is expected to close in the third quarter of 2008.

Weyerhaeuser's containerboard packaging and recycling business includes nine linerboard mills, 72 box plants in the US and four in Mexico, and more than 30 specialty packaging, kraft bag and recycling operations.
