Faustel adds pressurized, gravure coater to tech center

Germantown, WI-based web-converting machinery maker Faustel adds a pilot-scale model of its Vari-Coat Gravure pressurized, gravure-coating system to its Process and Technology Center.
The new technology allows precise coatweight over a range of coating thicknesses without the need to change the gravure cylinder, Faustel says. The Vari-Coat gravure reportedly eliminates air from entering the applicator chamber and thus allows a more consistent coating film at higher speeds. It has proven to be an alternative to slot-die coating in certain applications.
Faustel’s Process and Technology Center incorporates all well-known drying and curing technologies currently used in the converting industry as well as a wide variety of coating, laminating and winding methods. The line is geared for speeds of 10 to 2,000 fpm. Web width ranges from 6 to 24 in., and tensions from 0.18 to 6 PLI.
